Arkansas Interfaith Power and Light has emerged from Green Teams and similar organizations at individual houses of worship. The Arkansas Affiliate IPL also has emerged from the Arkansas Green Faith Alliance, established in 2008 for increasing awareness among members of the faith community. The Green Faith Alliance, Green Teams at houses of worship,and similar organizations are separate and distinct from Arkansas IPL.

In 2009 the Arkansas Green Faith Alliance grew to more than 300 members statewide and earned the Conservation Organization of the Year Award from Arkansas Wildlife Federation.
